welcome
It’s so good to be back and of course, we’ve got much better facilities for you to enjoy. A great new look, more space, new seats and improved access for all.The whole point of a theatre is to attract people and we’ve been spending much of the last year planning for the future. We’ve always considered Exeter Northcott to offer something for everyone and over the years we’ve enjoyed the support of a fantastically enthusiastic audience. We now want to take that policy one step further. Not only with great theatre, but with more music and dance and more work for young people and families. If you never thought you’d get the chance to see live video jockeying at Exeter Northcott – think again!
The Notebook of Trigorin is a great example of blending the old with the new. It’s very recognisably Chekhov’s The Seagull, but it is also a new play by Tennessee Williams. A fascinating and part posthumous collaboration between two of the twentieth century’s very greatest writers. This idea of ‘Tradition and Transformation’ will be a theme which we return to time and again. Even traditional pantomime is an art form which continually needs to reinvent itself, keeping the best of the old, whilst adapting and changing with the times.
We care about what you think. Our website is being completely redesigned and we hope that you will find it much more interesting, informative and interactive. Please use it to share your opinions about Exeter Northcott shows, both with us and with your friends. We also have one of the most up to date online bookings systems in the country – so please use it to buy lots of tickets!
We’ve got a great set of shows for people of all ages. We hope you’ll find plenty to enjoy and look forward to seeing you very soon Ben Crocker Artistic Director
About us
We are very proud to reopen after being closed for almost a year for our first major redevelopment in 40 years.
The £2.1m raised has enabled us to provide:
- Full accessibility for all customers with a new lift and ramped pathway leading to the main entrance
- New seats throughout the auditorium
- A complete refurbishment of all public areas
A stylish new bar and food servery, providing not only a vibrant place to socialise but also a meeting/networking space – with the availability of wi-fi for all those wanting a relaxed area to work with a good cup of coffee
But xN is more than just a building, it is a creative platform where people can meet to be inspired; it is the hub from where all that xN creates can reach out into the community: Cutting edge tours going national; rural tours that cut straight to the issues (such as the Northcott Community Company Pen & Trough project earlier this year); two community companies for all ages, choirs, writing groups and above all the opportunity to engage with theatre professionals at all levels of involvement.
We also hope to achieve some of the following in the very near future:
- Develop a late night audience for music.
- Use the café area for possible comedy and poetry events.
- Start lunch time music and lecture events.
- Exhibit the work of local artists in the foyer.
Thank you for all the support we have received and we hope that you will be part of our exciting future.
