English Touring Opera visit Exeter Northcott next week 11/03/10
Exeter Northcott is delighted to welcome back English Touring Opera for its fabulous Season of Comedy, featuring three famous operas from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
The season has proved extraordinarily popular, and Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream have both sold out. However, to experience amazing opera performed by a world-class company, there is still availability for Donizetti’s masterpiece of comic opera, Don Pasquale, on Tuesday 16 and Friday 19 March.
ETO artistic director James Conway is an acknowledged champion of Donizetti, but he was shy of Don Pasquale because the story just seemed to be about young people ganging up on an old man. Then director William Oldroyd sold him the idea of portraying Pasquale as an arrogant, tyrannical orchestra conductor, and the production was given the go ahead.
Don Pasquale is a true classic, with rich soaring melodies and beautiful period costumes balanced with a stunning modern set. Tickets cost £17 to £30, with half price for students, under 26s and other concessions. For more info and to book online click here.
