About the Theatre
Exeter Northcott Theatre is a 460 seat venue serving Exeter and heart of Devon from its home on the University of Exeter Streatham Campus. We offer a mixed programme of touring theatre productions, contemporary dance, opera, music, comedy and family shows to our catchment of 551,000 homes.
"Inspiring theatre at the heart of Devon."
Our aim is to be a creative leader for Exeter and the rest of Devon, offering a highly regarded platform for the best work by emerging and established local, regional, national and international artists. This means that whenever you plan to visit the theatre you will find an exciting mix of the best dance, drama and family theatre, spiced with a healthy dash of comedy, music and personal appearances.
Exeter Northcott Theatre is also committed to developing the workforce of the future by offering training and career development opportunities across the breadth of our work. We also collaborate with Daisi (Devon arts in schools initiative) in a partnership that offers Devon schools the opportunity to work more closely with visiting artists.
An important part of our role is to provide a stage for local community companies and we are proud to host annual visits by Exeter Musical Society, Stage by Stage, Chance to Dance and Wren Music.
We have a close involvement with the University of Exeter's Arts & Culture Strategy which maximises the opportunities on campus for student and public participation in cultural activities and we also offer up our stage to student societies who annually present their work in our theatre; Exeter University Theatre Company, Exeter University Footlights Society, Exeter University Gilbert and Sullivan Society and Exeter University Choral Society and Scholar's Ensemble all perform in the theatre throughout the academic year.
We actively work alongside other venues in Exeter in terms of programming and audience development, to maximise opportunities for audiences to access the highest quality performing arts throughout the city, and have been part of the Exeter Summer Festival, EXEtreme Imagination Children's Literature Festival (Nov 2010), Laugh Out Loud Comedy Festival (January), Vibraphonic Festival (March) and the UK Taiko Festival (June).
We are confident that our ever increasing and broadening audiences will always find something to enjoy and, as ever, we look forward to welcoming you to our lovely theatre and sharing our passion for live performance and hospitality with you.
